Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval

The Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval

The Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval in Hauterives is an exceptional and colourful place, born from a dream of postman Ferdinand Cheval who built it stone by stone from 1879 to 1912. This masterwork of naive art, completely independent from any art movement, found its inspiration in the nature and exotic architecture that the postman finds in the first illustrated magazines. The Palais has been a historical monument since 1969, and this unique site now offers space to famous artist who exhibit their work, like Niki de Saint Phaelle.

Discovering "l'Ardèche Verte"

The Ardèche Verte or Haut Vivarais is nestled between the parc naturel des Monts d'Ardèche, in the south, and the parc naturel du Pilat, in the north. The region offers an exceptional natural environment and a wealth of landscapes with green countryside, woods and mountains of more than 1300 metres. The landscape is scattered with picturesque villages, lakes and rivers. The region is ideal for hikers, anglers and those who love white water sports. The Ardèche Verte is also a region of traditions that is proud of its vineyards and heritage.
