Situated in the Gorges du Doux in the Ardèche, Le Castelet is an emblematic site where calm, nature and family history come together. Created in 1976 by Simone and Charles dit (Lolo) Durand, this campsite was born in an exceptional setting, on the banks of a river at the gateway to the Doux Gorges. The site overlooks the vineyards of Saint-Joseph, adding authenticity and charm to the area.
History break
Family ambition
right from the start
From the outset, Simone et Lolo’s ambition was to offer the perfect vacation spot for families in search of rest and nature. The idea was to create a place where it would be possible to recharge one’s batteries, far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, while enjoying the wonders of the Ardèche. The modest campsite quickly won over its first guests with its idyllic setting and warm welcome.
An evolution driven by the Durand family
Over the years, the campsite has evolved, supported by the involvement of the Durand family. In the mid-80s, their daughter Christiane and her husband André Tavenard took over the reins, bringing with them a new dynamic. Under their leadership, the campsite began to develop further, while retaining its authentic family character. They have taken great care to preserve the harmony between the modern facilities and the natural beauty of the site, creating a wooded park that provides shade and serenity for holidaymakers.
The succession of grandchildren and 4-star classification
Since 2012, grandchildren Maryline and Didier Lionneton have taken over. With a passion for hospitality and respect for nature, they have continued to grow the campsite while respecting its founding values. Under their management, the campsite has obtained its 4-star classification, with 59 pitches and 8 mobile homes.
An exceptional setting for family vacations
Camping Le Castelet enjoys a privileged geographical location. Situated 10 km from the N°13 freeway exit and set in an exceptional natural environment, it offers visitors the opportunity to recharge their batteries in the heart of nature, yet within easy reach of the Ardèche’s main tourist attractions. Holidaymakers can take advantage of the Doux river for fishing or swimming, or explore the hiking trails that criss-cross the Gorges.
Modern facilities, such as a heated swimming pool and children’s water playground, are the perfect complement to an outdoor vacation. Spacious pitches and fully-equipped mobile homes offer something for every family.
Today, after almost 50 years of history, Camping Le Castelet remains a must for family vacations in the Ardèche. Three generations have succeeded one another to perpetuate a family heritage, where the values of simplicity, respect for the environment and quality of welcome are at the heart of every stay. In this idyllic setting, holidaymakers can enjoy a true haven of peace, and reconnect with nature in all its splendor. To ensure peace and quiet, we do not accept groups.
